The World of Spike & Pals

Spike & Pals is a tight-knit community of anthropomorphic lizards whose planet of origin is the endless imagination of artist and animator Paul Stewart. Spike and his friends were inspired by a collection of real lizards owned by an instructor, "Uncle Nate", at a camp Paul attended one summer. Paul bought the largest of Uncle Nate's lizards - a Mali Uromastyx - whom he prompty named "Smaug" after the dragon in Tolkien's book "The Hobbit". Smaug became the inspiration for Spike Uromastyx, and was quickly followed by other friends - Wally Chuckwalla, Sandy Dragonbeard, Monty the Monitor, as well as the unforgettable villain - Doc Croc.
